The Limestone County Water Authority of
Athens, Alabama, owned an existing 16,000 square foot pre-engineered building with a brick
front façade and metal panel exterior walls on the other 3 walls. The offices were
arranged in such a way that the owner only utilized approximately 40% of the facility. The owners program consisted of providing a facility that would
enhance their image, as they have plans to produce bottled water. The projects
program consisted of the following: a larger, more secure customer service desk area with
better access to the parking area, a two lane drive-thru canopy, a new board room with
multimedia capabilities, two executive offices, various offices for other employees, a new
water testing lab area, employee locker rooms, fitness center, and break area.
The interior layout was to be designed in such a way as to limit
the access of the public to only the customer service desk area. The exterior renovation
resulted in the use of a two color exterior insulation finish system (dryvit) over the
existing materials. Evaluation of the existing building frame and roof system was also
provided.
