Marshall Co-op Fertilizer Building Lewisburg, Tennessee

Description

This facility was designed and constructed in 1998. It included a covered loadout bay which contains two blenders, fertilizer bins, and exterior and interior conveying systems. Because of the humidity factor in the South and the corrosive nature of fertilizer, this type of facility can be construed as a specialized design. Most types of fertilizer, when stored in humid conditions, can corrode steel and other types of metals; therefore, these facilities are constructed of wood and fiberglass siding. Furthermore, all exposed steel in this type of facility must be stainless steel. The types of conveying systems used in this type of building are also a major issue to assure longevity.

Dunlap-Bumpas Associates assisted Marshall Co-op with the following issues: layout of access roads, size and layout of bins, selection of conveying systems, special coatings for concrete floors, and selection of the general contractor.
