Description |
This project
designed in August, 2000, provided additional seating area for the existing
sanctuary, larger narthex, new chapel, new restrooms, and accessible
entrances from the parking lot.
Specifically this addition and renovation
added 300 seats to the existing 500 seat sanctuary bringing the total
seating capacity to 800. This was achieved by converting the existing
chapel, narthex, sacristy, and restroom areas into additional seating space
by removing a structurally load bearing wall between these spaces and the
existing sanctuary. Approximately 3,900 square feet was added to accommodate
the spaces listed above which was converted to additional seating space.
The new chapel area seats approximately 40
persons and has a large window viewing into the sanctuary. Therefore, the
new chapel, which has its own separate exterior entrance for weekday mass or
private meditation, doubles as cry room for regular mass services.
The new narthex area has 2 entrances, one of
which is handicap accessible. The 2,900 square feet narthex contains a
baptismal fount and can also double as additional seating area for the
sanctuary. This additional seating area is achieved by full glass doors,
sidelights, and transoms that separate the narthex from the sanctuary. The
baptismal fount has an opaque skylight centered above it and the fount is
centered on the aisle leading to the altar. These 2 axis signify both the
vertical and horizontal spiritual relationships.
The new restroom areas are handicap
accessible to complete the conversion to new handicap code standards and
requirements.
The existing interior of the sanctuary was
completely refinished with the exception of the pews. In addition, new
dimmable lighting systems and upgraded air handling systems were installed
in the existing sanctuary.
The project was completed in August, 2001
for a cost of approximately $750,000. The General Contractor was Parsley
Brothers Construction of Murfreesboro, TN. |
